Biography

Masako Jasmine Yotsugi is a versatile pianist and dedicated instructor whose teaching bridges classical training with jazz and contemporary music. For students with a foundation in classical piano, she offers jazz instruction with an emphasis on playing from lead sheets. Her teaching includes left-hand development, melody harmonization, voicing, improvisation, and reharmonization. Her goal is to help students create a full, expressive sound at the piano while developing the creativity and independence needed for solo playing. These skills translate naturally to a variety of musical styles, including jazz, pop, and contemporary music.

Masako was a resident pianist at the prestigious Boston Harbor Hotel and Joe Tecce’s in Boston’s North End, where she performed a diverse repertoire spanning the Great American Songbook and contemporary music. In addition to her solo work, she frequently collaborates with other musicians and recently co-founded BÉME (Belle Époque Music Ensemble) with cellist Fabrizio Mazzetta, showcasing her versatility as both a soloist and ensemble performer.

Masako earned her diploma in Jazz Piano Performance at Berklee College of Music, where she studied with renowned jazz pianist Ray Santisi.

Outside of music, Masako enjoys cooking, traveling, movies, and yoga.

Teaching Philosophy

Music is a universal language that allows us to express ourselves beyond words. My mentor at Berklee, Ray Santisi, often said, “Let’s develop our skills so we can support our instinct.” I value steady progress and believe that small achievements are important—they build confidence, create a sense of accomplishment, and motivate us to keep growing. My teaching focuses on helping students play comfortably while discovering the joy and lifelong benefits of music. My goal is to help people bring music into their lives, regardless of their age, background, or profession.
